Following Jesus

Luke 9:61-62 (The Message): Then another said, "I'm ready to follow you, Master, but first excuse me while I get things straightened out at home." Jesus said, "No procrastination. No backward looks. You can't put God's kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day."

I recognize it’s been a busy few weeks for me, and I’ve made the excuse that when things settle down, I will once again pick up blogging. However, today I was challenged when I read the above verses in The Message. I know God has called me to write. I just have to make time to sit down and do so.

As a wife and mother, especially at this time of year, I want things just so so for my family! There are certain decorations I want out, certain things I want to shop for and bake. I spend a lot of time picking out just the right foods and recipes. It's one of my favorite times of year.

However, I have a tendency to procrastinate and not do all I know God wants during this season. I have a book on my shelf I should probably read one day. The title is what attracted me. It's called, "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World." That kind of sums up the challenge I feel right now.

I have a pretty good idea what God wants me to do, and know I'm not doing it completely. No more excuses. It’s time to follow Jesus all the way.

What about you? Are the holidays a time of challenge because of the added activity? What is God calling you to do during this season?
