Appoint Me Lord!

Jonah 4:6: So the Lord appointed a plant and it grew up over Jonah to be a shade over his head to deliver him from his discomfort. And Jonah was extremely happy about the plant.

In the Arizona sun, we all depend on shady spots. Today I was eating on the run and looked for a parking place under a tree. The first place I chose caused the shade to be on the passenger side of the car. Eventually I had to move because the heat made it so uncomfortable.

Growing up there was a plaque on our kitchen wall that said, "Bloom Where You Are Planted." There are certain people God has planted in my life and I'm very thankful. They have been shade for me in times when I really needed it.

In the above verse in Jonah, I love the fact that God appointed the plant. I want to be appointed by God to shade my friends as well.

The plant's job was just to be there. The plant did not tell Jonah what to do or try to change him. Sometimes when our friends are hurting, we feel uncomfortable and wonder what to say. Just being there is enough.

Has God appointed you to be shade for anyone specific today? I pray He will use you to bring refreshment to all those you come in contact with.
